Adventures in Life: How It All Started

When I woke up on Election Day 2008, I didn't really even want to go and vote. Living in Illinois, I feel like my vote doesn't matter that much because the state is basically colored blue from the moment the polls open. So, I went to work, just like every other day, and about half way through the day I got a text from this guy I was friends with. I don't remember exactly what it said, but it was something along the lines of "Hey, did your vote today?" I told him I had not, and that I didn't think I was going to. He continued to text me and convinced me it was important to vote. He then concocted a plan: after work I would go and vote and after that I could meet him for dinner at a sandwich shop just down the street from my polling location. You see, apparently this sandwich shop had the best subs in town, and I had yet to try them. He assured me it was not a date, just voting and sandwiches. (Ha! Little did I know! ...Oh, I forgot to mention this guy texting me, his name starts with the letter D)

After work I voted, and walked over to meet up with him. I remember it was warm enough to sit outside and eat our sandwiches while chatting and watching the people walk by. He was such a nice guy, the perfect gentleman, and cute too! Conversation came easy on our first "not a date". I can't remember at all what we talked about but we sat and talked until it started getting dark. And then he walked me home.

And that is how it all started for D and V. Voting and subs.

Fast forward to Election Day 2012. I married that guy who was texting me. AND Daniel will probably have to convince me again this year to go and vote...the sub sandwich place closed last year, so we won't be going there again, but one thing is for sure, I am VERY glad he texted me "to see if I had voted" 4 years ago!

Will you be voting tomorrow? Or maybe you voted early?

  1. I know how you feel, Veronica ~ I live in a "blue" state too. But I'm very grateful that I live in a country where I have a voice and I can cast my vote....because so many others can't.

Praying this Scripture over the election:

    2 Chronicles 7:14
"If my people, who are called by my name,
will humble themselves and pray and seek my face
and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and forgive their sin and heal their land."

  2. Ha, I love this story! What a cute first non-date. :-) Good for your hubby for making you go out and vote! :-P I know it doesn't seem like it matters when you aren't in a swing state, but you just never know how these things can go. :-)

  3. Cute story! I live in Illinois too, and it seems the only votes that matter are the Chicago ones. However, since they have made such a mess of our state, I say even more reason to vote!

  4. aw... sweet :)
I will be voting first thing tomorrow morning and then try to pass on my anxiety until the the results are tallied. I am so not a competitive person so presidential elections are stressful to me. I will be reminding myself that whatever, the Lord is my hope.

Yes... I will be voting. I wish there was someone I could actually believe in to cast my vote for, though :( This election sucks!
