Well, we spent another weekend digging out the middle of the basement floor.
{Big Dig Part 1 Here} This weekend was a little harder as it was raining.
dirt + rain = MUD
Lots and lots of mud!
But our hard working helpers till showed up, and we got another third or so dug out.

We un-earthed some mysterious steps under the concrete that lead to...well, nowhere really. They are going down towards the wall. Weird, right?
And some very exciting news is that WE HAVE HEAT (for the first floor of the house). You may remember that we are switching to radiant heat, from a forced air furnace, and will be putting the radiant heat into the new concrete floor of the basement. The past week or so we have been working on installing it in the ceiling of the basement / floor for the first floor. Below is the radiant heat exchange and pump system that Daniel designed and built himself!
Some day I will have to have Daniel do a post explaining how this all works (he told me, but let's be honest, I didn't really understand half of what he was saying! Good thing he is so smart!) We turned in on on Friday night and were nice and toasty warm by Saturday morning! Now we just have to get the rest of the floor dug so we can get the new floor poured.
Wow! You guys have been working hard! It's coming along great and I can't wait to see how it turns out.

ReplyDeleteOh, my, that heating configuration gives me a heat rush looking at it. This is such a fun project to follow. Keep up the hard work!
ReplyDeleteSo far so good. It just keeps getting better and better. I following the progression as you go along the way. I like the radiant heat and pump system on the first floor. Was thinking of having one myself.
