Adventures in the Basement: Big Dig Part 1

This weekend we started digging out the middle of the basement. We are a little under the gun now to get this floor dug and poured as we are switching our house from a forced air furnace to radiant floor heat....that is code for WE DON'T HAVE HEAT until we have a basement floor. Yikes! We had a bunch of fantastic guys come over to help this weekend and they made some good progress!
 Here is where the bathroom and office/extra bedroom will be.

 This is where our family room will be (is your imagination getting a good workout!?)
 They got a little more than a third of the way across the big part of the basement. This is the first of the 3 new support pillars that we installed. Remember when we were pouring the base for these pillars back in July? If you don't, that is what we were doing {HERE}

This area is going to be our master bedroom. I took the picture standing in the future walk in closet!.
You may have noticed a plywood wall in the back of some of these pictures. That is where the new laundry room is and where the heat exchange and controls for the radiant heat are going.
Those orange tubes handing down from the ceiling are the radiant heat tubes for the first floor. They go against the underside of the subfloor and aluminum sheets go over them to disperse the heat from the hot water in the pipes. In the basement the orange tubes will be inside the new concrete floor.
Well, that is what we did this weekend (and will be doing next weekend as well!)
What did you do this weekend?

  4. I'm telling you, I am in awe of you guys! Honestly, what an undertaking and what determination and focus you all have had to have during this process. I love seeing the progress and pray things will go "smooth as silk" for the remaining work. Blessings!

  5. What a project! You guys are NOT remodeling sissies! Hope it goes quickly from here on out!

  6. Dig, dig, dig! It is starting to get cold!
