Adventures in the Kitchen: Why Didn't I Think of That Part 2

I love finding new ways to do things - especially in the kitchen. Earlier this spring my hubby came up with a creative way to slice strawberries. The other day I was at a friends house and I learned a new way to cut a watermelon that I just had to share with you! This method comes from my good friend Sherah (check out her awesome photography blog {HERE}) and the pictures were take by my super talented photographer sister-in-law Wendy (you can check out her amazing photography blog {HERE}).

I was so thankful Wendy was visiting us when I was cutting the watermelon - not only because she is an amazing photographer, but have you ever tried to take pictures of yourself cutting something...It's not easy!

So here we go - Super easy and relatively clean way to cut a watermelon.
Start with the melon...
 Cut it in half...
 And then into fourths...
Taking one of the 4 sections, hold on to the rind so one of the flesh sides is up, make 4 slices (or more) along the length of the melon - do not cut through the rind.
Turn melon so the other fleshy side is facing up and repeat the slicing (you can see the first slice marks on the side)
Then lay the watermelon on the rind and slice from the ridge to the rind (but again not through the rind)
Carefully hold the watermelon over a bowl
And dump out your cubed watermelon
 TaaDaa!
You may need to run your knife along the edges to get all the side pieces
Or sometimes I use a spoon to make sure I get all the flesh out
That's it! Most of the juice goes into the bowl, so there is minimal mess to clean up,
and only 4 chunks of rind to throw away.
This is by far the easiest and
least messy way to cut watermelon I have ever seen.
Which lease me to wonder -
Why didn't I think of that?!?

  3. How nifty is that?!! I'd never get to the cube stages, hubby would grab "his" half and take off.

  13. This is how I cut watermelon as well but instead of cutting crisscross, I just cut one way and end up with triangles. The bite size are great too!
