Adventures in Hostessing: Shower favors

I learned back in high school how to make these pretty little flower pens, and decided that they would make a great little baby shower favor and decoration! They are so quick and easy. I made 10 of them in less than 30 min. AND I already had most of the items on hand!
Here is what you need:
...and a little bit of ...
Hot Glue.

Start by cutting the fake flower off the long stem.
Add a little glue to the end of the stem to secure the head of the flower on.
(Since I got my flowers at The Dollar Store, the blooms popped off pretty easily.)
Use a little bit of hot glue to secure the stem of the flower to top of the pen.
Get your floral tape ready...
Wrap the floral tape around the pen, from the top to the bottom.
Stretch the tape as you wrap to make it sticky.
When you get to the bottom of the pen, double back on the wrapping a little so the end of the tap is not right at the bottom.
I put them in a vase to display them for the shower...
And then each guest got to take one home with them as a little gift.
Another idea would be to put them in a flower pot and give a set of them as a gift...
perhaps for Mother's Day!

btw. i have recently started to 'mess' with faux flowers and found that by distressing them, they become more natural looking. i distress eg. by laying them in coffee grinds or other method. often just dunking them in water already is a good tip, particularly for cheapy ones.

  8. I do love these! My mom has a set of these that someone gave to her and they look adorable by the phone. I think I'll make some for my desk. Why use ugly pens when you don't have to?

  9. Veronica,

These are sweet! I made some for my daughter's birthday party a few years ago, and she's been asking me to make them again since. There's just something so fun about writing with a flower pen.

I'm visiting from the 30 Handmade Days linky party. I would love it if you stopped by my blog.

    Thanks for sharing,
    Laura
