Adventures in the Kitchen: Food Storage

I am always looking for the best and most cost effective way to keep our food fresh. So when I stumbled upon this little trick the other day on Pinterest, I knew I had to give it a try!
Check this out!

Ok, let's be honest here, when a bag of chocolate chips gets opened in this house, there is no need to keep the remaining chips fresh...because there are no remaining chips. period. BUT this little trick could be useful for a half used bag of walnuts, or even a bag of chips. Just cut off the top of an empty plastic bottle, pull wrapper through, and put top on.
I used an empty 2 liter soda bottle and a bag of walnuts. I first tried a bag of chips, but my bottle mouth was not large enough. I will have to be on the look out for a bottle with a larger mouth to try the chip bag again.

Do you have any tips or tricks for keeping food fresh?

  1. I agree. Who opens a bag of chocolate chips and then leaves them uneaten? Maybe a juice bottle would be large enough for the chip bag? Or we buy our cat foot in mega jugs that have huge openings but it might just be easier to buy a huge tupperware container.

  2. lol...I'm glad you added you could use it elsewhere because whenever I see this going around on Pinterest I just laugh. I've never had problems with twisty ties keeping the choc. chips fresh. ;)
