Adventures in Life: What's Your Favorite Cereal?

Have you guys ever visited Mama Kat's blog? She has some great vlog post prompts (that I've done before) and this week I am participating in her Writer's Workshop. On Tuesday she posts writing prompts and then on Thursday everyone posts their writing and links up!

For my first Writer's Workshop I wrote about question #4

Thursday, March 7th is National Cereal Day…write about your favorite cereal when you were a child. How has it changed?

When I was a growing, our house did not have what a child would consider 'fun cereal'. When I was at the grocery store with my mom, I would dream of Cookie Crisp, Lucky Charms,  or Coco Puffs. I wished that Tony the Tiger would hop into the cart. Until one day my mom got us Team USA Cheerios.

Do you remember this cereal?! In the box was a mixture of regular Cheerios, honey nut Cheerios, and FROSTED Cheerios! FROSTED! FROSTED! FROSTED! My brother and I NEVER got FROSTED  cereal unless we could sneak some at a hotel continental breakfast. We were SO excited...and we totally blew it. It started with a hand full. We would pick out the frosted Cheerios first, and then eat the rest of them. The next hand full, we picked out the frosted Cheerios...and put the other ones back in the box. Reaching in to get more of the sugary frosted goodness in "O" form. This continued until we picked out every single one of those frosted Cheerios from that box. Needless to say, it was a long time before my mom got us another box of USA Cheerios.

Now that I am an adult, and can pick any kind of cereal that I want, I don't really eat much of it! Breakfast is usually yogurt and fruit, eggs, GF waffles, or oatmeal. If I do have cereal, it is a bowl of Cinnamon Life. Love that stuff! I think I will go get a bowl right now!

Wait, one last thing before you go. If you have not gone to So You Think You're Crafty to vote for the Season 15 Auditions, please do!!! Today is the last day to vote, and I am hoping to make the Top 10!

The voting is anonymous, so I can't tell you which project I entered, but I would love for you to go and vote for your favorite! Just click {HERE}

  1. I ate so many cheerios as a child (cause it was one of the cereals my mom approved of) that I can barely get them down these days. I let my boys have one crap cereal in the pantry at a time as a way of sticking my tongue out at my mom ;) But now she has softened and she keeps all kinds of crap cereal at her house to try and one up me!! LOL!
I'll go and vote for ya, good luck!

  2. Cereal is one of my favorite foods - it's so versatile! I was traumatized by the lack of "junk food" cereal in our house. I used to caress the Cookie Crisp when I saw it in the supermarket. For the record the Snackwell 100-calorie pack chocolate chip cookies taste similar.

  3. I don't remember that kind of cereal, but I probably would have done the same and get the yummy ones out first.

  4. I'm also not a big cereal person, but have to admit I do fancy Apple Cinnamon Cheerios.

  5. Frosted Flakes and Cocoa Puffs were regulars at our house along with Rice Krispies and Cheerios.

We are big cereal folks or at least I am. I love it all.

  6. When my husband and I were new parents, we made a rule that our kids would never eat cereal where sugar was the first ingredient.

Yeah... that lasted about through one kid then we gave in because unfortunately sugar is like the 1st or 2nd ingredient in most cereals.

  7. Favorite junk cereals - Fruit Loops, Capt'n Crunch, Frosted Flakes. Eaten sparingly, more as a dessert or snack. My children realize they need a far better breakfast to function, so I consider that a success of teaching nutrition.

  8. My mother never bought cereal when I was little. I have no idea why. We were bacon and eggs or pancake people. Maybe oatmeal. When I moved out and went to college, I made up for this serious deprivation by eating nothing but cereal for about two years!

  9. That's sooo funny ~ I really don't remember you two picking out all the "frosted" Cheerios from the box!! Have you tried the new cinnamon Cheerios yet?

I do remember that when you were really little that you called bagels "donuts" = )

  10. Oh, me, it was "snap, crackle and pop" Rice Krispies for this old lady. That was about as good as it got back then. :o) But, I do love Cherrios today and regular Life and Quaker Oat Squares.

    Cute entry! Happy weekend!

  11. I have never seen those Cheerios, but they sound delicious. We always got Wheaties or Rice Crispies. When I was in college I went nuts over Captain Crunch. Now I seldom have any cereal, but some days, I miss it.

  12. I've had to wean myself away from buying so many sugary cereals for my kids because they eat too much of it. I do really love the Apple Cinnamon (gluten free) Chex from the grocery store. Sometimes I just pour a little bowl to snack on!

I don't remember those USA Cherrios, but I think picking all the frosted ones out and eating them first sounds like something I would do too!
