Adventures in Faith: Ephesians 2:10

We have been doing a lot of work with our hands around the house lately, so when I was reading in Ephesians 2, verse 10 really stuck out to me. We are all created by God. And not "just created", take a look at what we are to our creator...

Ephesians 2:10
New Living Translation (NLT)
10 For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

New International Version (NIV)
10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

New American Standard Bible (NASB)
10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.

The Greek word ποίημα means several similar English words.
Masterpiece
Handiwork
Workmanship
These 3 acts all take great skill, thought, concentration, passion for what is being created. When God created you he made a masterpiece! He didn't finish half way and then say "hmm, that's good enough". No way! God's workmanship is perfectly designed and made exactly the way He wanted it. As we are working on what we can only hope will be able to be described as a masterpiece in our basement {click here to see our progress}, we are spending hours, days, months planning, working, and building. LOTS of work goes into a masterpiece. I am so thankful that God used His great workmanship to create us in His image, and sent Jesus to be our redeemer when the handiwork needed a fresh coat of paint!

Have you ever created a masterpiece? How much time and effort did you put into it?

  3. I am daily reminded of the masterpieces God has created around me; our 4 grandchildren, the river nearby, and even the homes being built all around us by the hands of men He created into being. That He created us to good works in His name is both humbling and encouraging!
