Adventures in the Basement: Still Digging and Other Misc.

Happy Monday! I was feeling a bit miscellaneous this morning, so here are a few things that have been on my mind...

1) Can I be honest with you? This weekend I did not have the best attitude about working on the basement.

Sometimes I feel like we have been digging for....ev.....er (name that movie. anybody?).

Sunday afternoon we were working and Daniel asked me to clean up this little area in the basement that had some wood and junk that needed to be cleaned up and thrown out. I did it, because it was how I could help him best at that time, but as I was working on it I was grumbling on the inside. Feeling sorry for myself that we haven't had time to do anything this summer and fall but work. All of our extra money and extra time are put in to the basement. And the list went on, but in the end I realized that my attitude was way out of line. And thinking about it this way was just making it worse! So I decided to make a list in my head of all the things I was thankful for about our basement project. I am thankful we even have a house with a basement to finish. I am thankful that Daniel is so talented and motivated to do this work himself. I am thankful for our friends who have come over to help - some of them have come every Saturday for weeks! I am thankful that no one has gotten hurt doing this very hard work. I am thankful that God provided us with the right tools, like a cement mixer, just when we needed them. And as I was making my list, you know what, God took my bad attitude and transformed it to the point where I was glad to be picking up the garbage!
Just a little more to dig and then we will be ready for the new floor.
This will be the bathroom. The toilet will be under the window. Can you picture it?!
Here is our ramp we use to get the wheelbarrow up to the old floor and then we have another ramp to get it out the window.

2) I'm not the biggest fan of Halloween decorations. I like fall decorations: pumpkins, mums, even scarecrows. But I have seen some freaky looking houses around our neighborhood and I'm just not a fan.

3) I LOVE Thanksgiving. And I don't do anything Christmas-y until after Thanksgiving. And it drives me crazy that after Wednesday every store I got in to will be in full blown Christmas mode. Come on people, what about Thanksgiving?!

Ok, that is enough of my craziness for the day. Have a wonderful week!

  1. Wow, things are really coming along with your basement remodel!

What a blessing to have such generous, thoughtful, helpful, and hard-working friends to come and help you with this big project. Wish we lived closer so that we could pitch in and help you too!

Hang in there ~ all of your sacrifices, hard work, time, & energy will be well worth it in the long run!!

Right now, it may FEEL like it's taking for....ev....er, but it's really not. By the way ~ LOVE "The Sandlot" movie = )

  2. So much work! I do not envy you!

I am guilty of scary decor and also putting my tree up before thanksgiving. Usually the weekend before. Mainly because it takes so much time to do our tree I want to enjoy it as long as I can. Plus I take my tree down the day after Christmas lol.

  3. Oh, I can so understand the whole attitude thing but isn't it wonderful how we can get ourselves straightened back out. As some folks say, "get our panties out of a wad." :o) I so admire you and Hubby's hard, hard work. You may never get him to move from this house once this project is finished. He'll have so much blood, sweat and tears that all the money in the world won't get him to budge. But, you'll have many wonderful years there I'm sure.

Yes, we know some folks that have about 20 skeltons hanging all over their front yard. Very strange I think.

    Blessings for a great week!

  4. I'm with you on fall decor. I do fall not halloween. I agree with you about christmas too, let the turkey have his day (Ok, we all know why we have thanksgiving, just want to get a grin).

It's ok to feel stressed but good for you for it being short lived. You have undertaken a HUGE project and I think many of us are praying for you and your hubs as you forge ahead. It will be wonderful when done. I can't wait to see it.

    Blessings gentle friend.

  5. I love this post! I can totally relate: my husband has been doing a lot of fixing up/remodeling around our house and most of the time i'm like "can we just hire someone", to avoid having to help. At the end of every project I am super amazed and thankful for the job he has completed.
Thanks for stopping by today from the linkup :)

  7. We all need to let it out at some pointed when we get stressed. It always nice when it's only a short stint and nothing catastrophic happens ;) Keep up the good work - it's totally going to be worth it in the end!

    P.S. I nominated you for a blogger award today at You.And.Me.Are.We :)

  8. I LOVE your change of attitude and perspective about your basement project. Home renovations always bring out my worst attitude.... my home is my haven and when it's not, I'm out of sorts- so it exceedingly helps to sit down and think of all the blessings in the midst of the chaos- which you did! Awesome.
Thanks too for popping over to my blog and leaving such sweet words. God bless!

  9. It is really all about our attitude, isn't it? I imagine you are sick of your project-it is a huge one. Someday this will all be just a good memory! I love Thanksgiving, too. It is my most favorite holiday of all-no pressure, just good food and family.
