Adventures in Hostessing: Shower favors

I learned back in high school how to make these pretty little flower pens, and decided that they would make a great little baby shower favor and decoration! They are so quick and easy. I made 10 of them in less than 30 min. AND I already had most of the items on hand!
Here is what you need:
...and a little bit of ...
Hot Glue.

Start by cutting the fake flower off the long stem.
Add a little glue to the end of the stem to secure the head of the flower on.
(Since I got my flowers at The Dollar Store, the blooms popped off pretty easily.)
Use a little bit of hot glue to secure the stem of the flower to top of the pen.
Get your floral tape ready...
Wrap the floral tape around the pen, from the top to the bottom.
Stretch the tape as you wrap to make it sticky.
When you get to the bottom of the pen, double back on the wrapping a little so the end of the tap is not right at the bottom.
I put them in a vase to display them for the shower...
And then each guest got to take one home with them as a little gift.
Another idea would be to put them in a flower pot and give a set of them as a gift...
perhaps for Mother's Day!

Adventures in Hostessing: Pink Flower Baby Shower

On Sunday I hosted a baby shower for my cousin-in-law at our house. She is due with her first baby girl in June. I had so much fun planning and making things for the shower and I can't wait to show you all the projects I have been working on! Here is an overview of the shower, and step by step instructions will follow later in the week.
Prayer wreath ~ Each person at the shower wrote a short prayer for the baby and I wove the paper into the wreath and then sent it home with mom to hang in baby's room.

Flower pens ~ Used for games, decoration, and shower favor that each guest could take home with them.

Decorations ~ I used the items that I purchased for her gift did double duty as decorations too. I don't know if you can see them, but the tint socks made a great decoration to hang from the crate paper!
They were light enough that the paper didn't sag very much when they were clipped on.

Food ~ We did a BBQ with our husbands after the "girl time" so we just had some light snacks. Fruit, cheese and crackers, cheese cake cups, and brownie bites.

Games~ We played Baby Bingo but you only needed 3 in a row to win, so the rounds went much faster and more people got a chance to win. We also did some nursery rhyme charades and a contest to see who could put a diaper on a stuffed animal the fastest.
*If anyone is looking for baby shower games I can provide more detail about these 3 that we played.
So there you have it! Pink Flower Baby Shower!
Later in the week I will be posting about the
Prayer Wreath
Flower Pens
and
Cheese Cake Cups
(they are gluten free)

Happy Monday!

Adventures in Hostessing: Go to Appetizer

I have been blessed to get to know all 4 of my grandparents in my lifetime.
This is my Grandma and Grandpa Seger.
My go to appetizer comes from my Grandma Seger's long list of delicious treats that she generously makes for her family and friends. She has passed on many recipes to me, but this is the simplest and most requested.
Grandma's Bacon Wrapped Weenies.
They are so easy and so yummy!
You will need:
1 package of little smokie cocktail weenies
1 package of bacon
brown sugar
toothpicks

Cover and refrigerate for a few hours. Grandma Seger prepares them a day ahead to time and refrigerate them overnight. The juices from the meat turn the
brown sugar in to kind of a carmel sauce.
Remove from refrigerator and
bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.
And enjoy!
These were on the menu for our Super Bowl party along with BBQ pulled pork sandwiches, brisket, baked beans, potato salad, and some yummy dips and salsas.
What yummy things did you eat this weekend?

Stay tuned for more Grandma Seger recipes!
