Adventures in the Basement: Mid-August Up-date

Well, things around here will probably be kind of quiet for the next few months. Everyday after work I change into my "basement clothes" and we head down to tackle the task of the evening. Digging, pouring cement, digging...Little by little we are making progress, but it doesn't leave much time for anything else! Now we are at the point that you can get a better idea of what exactly we are doing. Or goal in the next week is to finish the utility room area and pour that part of the floor. Then we can move over the washer and dryer and install the new water heater while we work on the rest of the basement. Here is the area all dug down and almost ready. We dug a pit for a sump pump (the black circle on the floor). If you can see the fan in the window, under that is where the washer and dryer will go. We still need to do the plumbing and prep the area for the radiant floor heat before we can pour the slab, but it is closer!
This is the view coming down the back steps. There will be a door to the utility room between the brick wall on the right and the post on the left. And an opening into the family room to the left. (you just have to use your imagination at this point!)
I took this picture standing in the "new laundry room" area. You can see how far we are digging down, the "laundry room" for now area and our nice pile of tools and stuff - there is also the old heater and water heater that will be coming out soon. The big white pipe in the middle is going to be inside the wall that goes between the new family room and the new bedroom.
There you have it, the mid-August Operation: Finish Basement Up-date!
If you have missed any of the other posts there is a new Operation:Finish Basement tab at the top of the page with links to all of the posts.
