Adventures in Reading: Vacation Reads

I got a little extra reading time while we were on the cruise. Sitting next to the pool, I gobbled up 2 1/2 books in less that a week - and it was great! Here are the 2 books that I finished:
Touching the Clouds by Bonnie Leon
This is the story of Kate Evans. She is an adventurous young woman with a pioneering spirit. The book begins with Kate's decision to leaver her home, family, and former fiance in Washington State to follow her dream of being a bush pilot in Alaska. As a single woman in a man’s world, she finds that contending with people’s expectations is almost as challenging as navigating the arctic storms. I very much enjoyed this book. It is an quick read with lots of action, Biblical values, high interest, and a heart-skipping love story all rolled into one book. It was fun and I am looking forward to reading more of Bonnie Leon's books. This is the first in a series of 3 books about Kate Evans in Alaska.

Remembering You by Tricia Goyer
Set in present day, this is the story of Ava Andrews, her Grandfather, and their trip to Europe. This is not just any trip, and Ava's Grandfather is not just any old man. The trip a WWII battle site tour of Europe. And Grandpa Jack is a WWII veteran. Ava is along not only to help her grandfather, but also to work. She is on assignment for her job at a network news station. She has been assigned to interview and video document this journey and the memories of the WWII veterans. Her grandfather is not to keen on the idea...fortunately he is not the only veteran traveling with them. Grandpa Jack's best friend Paul and his grandson have joined them for this cross country adventure. Ava and Paul's grandson Dennis have met before...but you will have to read the book to find out when and where! This story provided an interesting view on WWII history that I have not read about before. Veterans revisiting the places that changed their lives forever. Re-living the things they witnesses. Remembering the horrible sites they saw, and finding God's peace - the peace that passes all understanding - through it all.

The book that I did not have a chance to finish was Beth Moore's So Long Insecurity ...I am learning a lot, but this read was much more meaty than the other 2 books. I would read a chapter and need to think and pray about it. I am over half way done now and will be sure to review it when I am done!

Have you read any great books lately?
