"Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed,
for his compassions never fail.
They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

The words in and of themselves are powerful, but when you take into account the situation of the writer...Wow! The book of Lamentations was written by Jeremiah about the destruction of Jerusalem. The first 2 chapters are pretty much about the pain and destruction because of continual disobedience by the people of Jerusalem. But in the midst of these laments Jeremiah writes in the middle of verse 3 'great is your faithfulness' and 'HIS compassions never fail'! Wow! How much better is my life situation than Jeremiah's was at that time? And how much slower am I to say 'great is YOUR faithfulness' to God. So today, my prayer is an echo of Jeremiah's so very long ago. Great is your faithfulness, Lord! Thank you that every morning you love me with the same unfailing love!

ReplyDeleteI wonder who/how and why the name "Lamentations" was chosen for the book of Lamentations. Was it because there already was a book of Jeremiah?
The "Book of Jeremiah" is a record of Jeremiah's 40 year ministry and his divine prophesies.
