Just before Christmas a new little shop opened up in our town. It is a flower and topiary shop. I know, topi-what? Topiary is the ancient art of shaping living plants into clearly defined, imaginative forms by clipping their leaves and twigs. It got me thinking of how I could make my own topiary with an ivy plant I have. Since I have been working on a few Valentine's Day projects, I thought I would add a Valentine's Day Topiary to the list of decorations. Here is what I did:
*I am to much of a perfectionist and to little of an artist to free hand a heart. I printed and cut one out.
* When I tried to stick the straw in the dirt, it wasn't strong enough to hold up the cardboard heart. So I had to re-work my plan...
*When the ivy was wrapped around the heart, I thought it looked more like a circle than a heart and wanted to define it a little more. I found some pink fabric in my scrap box and wove it into the ivy heart.
Look at all the SNOW!
Are you making any Valentine's Day decorations this year?
Hi Veronica, I love what you did with the heart-shaped ivy. Gorgeous - and it will only get better. Thanks so much for sharing. I have recently found your blog and am now following you, and will visit often. Please stop by my blog and perhaps you would like to follow me also. Have a wonderful day. Hugs, Chris

This is adorable! I love topiaries but haven't had the courage to make one. You make it look so easy!
ReplyDeleteI love that you used cardboard as your template! I love the fresh look to this--so fun! Thanks for sharing at oopsey daisy!
ReplyDeleteFabulous idea. Your topiary looks great, especially after adding the ribbon! Love it. I would surely make something like that but... I am lacking any kind of ivy... will have to work something out though:)
